UPPER TOWNSHIP – A proposal to extend a bike path through Upper Township is back under discussion after being previously stalled due to resident concerns. The project, initially introduced in April 2023, aims to connect existing paths from Dennis Township to Atlantic County, forming part of a 105-mile route from Cape May to Philadelphia. Objections from residents last year centered on potential issues such as illegal parking, delivery disruptions, package theft, and concerns about crime. Additionally, environmental challenges in the Great Cedar Swamp complicated planning, as the proposed route would require bridging and ongoing maintenance by the township. As a result, discussions faded over time, and the project was left without further action. After a period of inactivity, the topic was revisited at the start of the year. Officials are now reconsidering the feasibility of moving forward, though no formal decision has been made. With renewed talks underway, the township will need to weigh the benefits of an expanded bike path network against the challenges previously raised by the community.
