ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD) has reported an 11 percent decrease in crime for the past quarter and is now turning its attention to pedestrian safety. Starting April 15, 2025, the ACPD will implement a comprehensive pedestrian safety initiative aimed at reducing pedestrian-related car crashes. The program is being funded by a grant from the Highway Traffic Safety - Atlantic-Cape May Region. Officers will focus on high-traffic pedestrian areas, conducting enforcement operations throughout the summer. Individuals who violate traffic laws may receive a citation along with an educational pamphlet about pedestrian safety.
The ACPD encourages pedestrians to use crosswalks, wait for the walk signal, and remain alert while crossing streets. Drivers are urged to slow down, stop for pedestrians, and reduce distractions, particularly by avoiding phone use. Additionally, digital boards along the Atlantic City Boardwalk will display pedestrian safety messages, helping to raise awareness among both residents and visitors. A public service announcement about pedestrian safety will also air on television throughout the summer season to further promote the initiative.
