ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – An Atlantic City police officer was arrested on Thursday after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his patrol vehicle while she was handcuffed. Officer Joshua Munyon, 24, from Egg Harbor Township, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and official misconduct. The alleged incident took place on September 13, 2023, after Munyon reportedly served the victim with a summons for public intoxication at Tropicana Atlantic City.
He then transported her to a parking lot, where the assault allegedly occurred. The victim later reported the incident to security staff at Tropicana, describing the assault and indicating that she had sustained injuries to her wrist and toenails. Investigation into the incident revealed surveillance footage that showed the victim entering and exiting Munyon’s vehicle, as well as location data corroborating the route he took. Witnesses also provided statements that Munyon denied the victim’s presence in his vehicle. Munyon, who was hired in August 2022, had been placed on modified duty after the allegations surfaced.
Following his arrest, he was suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the case. He is currently being held in Cape May County Jail. The Atlantic City Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the case to contact them at 609-522-2411.
